ON A WING AND TWO PRAYERS

It was March 27, 1918. Lieutenants Alan McLeod and A.W. Hammond in an
Armstrong-Whitworth (Ack-W) shot down two of eight attacking Fokkers. Then, 2000
feet above Albert, France, they were hit. McLeod side-slipped the plane to force
the flames away. A third Fokker came too close to the dying plane and it went
down. When the Ack-W finally hit the ground both men were thrown clear and saved
by the British Tommies.
